I'm currently teaching my sewing classes and one of my students really loves unique collars.  This reminded me that I always wanted to make a detachable collar.  I love the idea of it being like jewelry in the sense you can add it to any outfit.  The possibilities are endless!  Here are my favorite tutorials I have found.

You could crochet one like above and below from Grow Creative. This is probably the first one I will try because I have been more into learning how to crochet and knit since I'm pretty advanced with sewing.  I love a challenge. Knitting or crocheting one would take more time, but so worth it I think look at how cute this collar is?  Get the Free crochet collar pattern from LuLu Loves.

 Another option that would take little time and only require a tiny bit of hand sewing is to make one out of felt (like the tutorial below from Honestly WTF), pleather, or leather (from SequinBlog).  No sewing machine needed.  Since the edges won't fray you don't need to make any seams.  You can also punch through holes in the fabric since it won't fray.  The tutorials below uses a hole punch for each scallop, but I'm sure there are many other cool ways you could add cut out designs to your collar.  I'd imagine scrap booking would have some nifty cut out like this 3 in 1 lace corner punch cut out tool, or this floral vine edger punch from Martha Stewart Crafts.  I doubt this would work on leather or pleather, but might work on felt.  Try at your own risk as I have not tested this idea yet and they are made for paper, but if you scrap book any ways I would try it.

You could also make one sewing on a sewing machine with fabric with a fun print like quilting cotton fabric like this one by My Sparkles (pictured below), or a bright color to color block with outfits.

I also like the idea of a collar in a neutral color with embellishments such as lace, crystals, studs, glitter, beads, sequins, and rhinestones.   Megan Nielsen's collar below is a great example.

I am so going to make this as a choker necklace.  The site I found this image from live internet is completely in Russian with no other pics of this project, but I think it's pretty easy to figure out from the picture.  I love that it just uses buttons, ribbons, and strings.  I am always on the look out for jewelry projects that use easy to find materials, since they are so expensive at the craft stores.  I knew I was saving all those buttons for something....

Love this DIY Ann Demeulemeester thorn bracelet tutorial by Monoxious.  I hope to make a necklace version and an armband.  They have leather scraps for cheap at The fabric Outlet in Brooklyn Park MN.  Next time I go......

Love this Lace Earring holder made by H is for Handmade.  I have been trying to find interesting ways to get my jewelry out of my jewelry box and into the light so I can easily see what I have.  It makes putting looks together so much easier, plus I actually wear my jewelry then.  I used a tie rack in my closet to hang up my necklaces, perhaps this will find it's way into my closet as well.  I also have a picture frame on the wall with hidden jewelry storage, and use suction cup hooks on the back of our medicine cabinet (which occasionally fall down) for earrings.  I think this looks like something from Anthropology.  I would probably use a silver spray paint to the frame when I make my version.  You can see the full tutorial here at H is for Handmade

I jam so loving using fabric for jewelry.  I have been wanting to start to learn how to make jewelry for awhile now, but didn't due to the cost of supplies.  I worked at a clothing store as a visual manager and got a great discount on jewelry so it seemed silly to buy supplies at more than what I could buy already made.  Since I sew and have a lot of fabric.....no more excuses!

Homako

Today is the first day that has a slight chill in the air and it's getting me thinking about fall.  After finding this amazing jewelry designer Homako who uses fabric and origami to create beautiful jewelry I am thinking of making a fabric necklace meets scarf.

I found this super cool macrame necklace at  Cut Out and Keep.  It's by Erika Domesak author of PS I Made This...She has amazing ideas, especially for jewelry I will have to get her book.  I think this would be cute in an Anthropology kind of way.
