Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman on Parks and Rec

I was currently browsing through the magazine Fine Woodworking and saw a picture of Ron Swanson a character from the NBC comedy Parks and Rec.  That sparked my interest and of course I read the article Level Big slabs of Wood In No Time Flat.  It was written by Nick Offerman who I love on Parks and Rec.  His character Ron Swanson is hilarious.  He is a libertarian, outdoorsy, woodworking, meat loving, government employee who hates government.  So to find out he is a professional wood worker in real life was very interesting to me.  He even makes canoes (he shot a DVD about how to make one)!  I wonder if he makes flutes too (his character did in one episode)! 

I am currently teaching myself how to make furniture.  I am starting with easy stuff first to learn, since I am new to wood working.  I am totally going to use this on the armoire wardrobe I plan to make for our bedroom, to supplement our tiny closet (assuming my husband approves of the finish).  I love shiny furniture!  This would be a great way to refinish and re-purpose thrift finds.  You can find the full tutorial here at Little Green Notebook of how to silver leaf furniture.

I so want to make this table from Sunset.com.  It's made out of an old salvaged window 4 legs and hinges.  I am teaching myself how to make furniture currently and this would be a great beginner project.  Unfortunately the Re-Use center that had great salvage finds by me closed, hopefully I can find a cool old window. 

I've been working on my craft room for awhile now.  Looking for inspiration I found Sew Woodsy's cool craft room.  My favorite part is the ribbon rack.  I have accumulated a small store worth of fabric, notions, and trims through the years now.  I usually don't even go to the store when starting a new project now I just shop at home.  The only key is to have it organized and pretty so I don't forget what I have!
