The New York Post reported that Chelsea Clinton and husband Marc Mezinsky have just purchased a $10.5 million apartment at The Whitman, located at the north end of Madison Square Park, with plans to move in during June. According to Heavy.com this pre-war Georgian style apartment has 5,000 sq ft, has 4 bedrooms, and 6 and 1/2 bathrooms. It's located at 21 East 26th St. on the second floor, the apartment has wooden oak floors, Italian marble bathrooms, and an elevator access. It also has a media room, home office, media room, and a private gym down stairs. The kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances with marble tabletops and the apartment's living room has a great view of Madison Square Park.

So apparently Chelsea is living large in NYC, considering how expensive square footage is in NYC (and in particular in Madison Square Park in the flatiron district). That's the thought that I found most interesting about Chelsea's new digs. An apartment like that is unbelievable in NYC, but more possible in other places of the country where real estate is cheaper. 5,000 square ft is a lot of footage and far from the norm of your average American, but is much more possible in areas where real estate is less expensive. For example doing a quick search in MN for real estate I found a property with similar beds and baths and square footage (5,700 sq ft) for around $700,000. Granted it's out in the boonies, but well that's my point. And considering that their prior apartment had 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 1,900 square feet which is in the range of your average middle class American can afford (anywhere that real estate isn't crazy expensive).
So I think apartments in NYC can be a great inspiration for the rest of America since most spaces are rather small even for celebrities. And even the celebrities living very large (like Chelsea Clinton) aren't living in sprawling mansions that are over 20,000 sq ft, so it's a little more relatable for design inspiration in your home. The pictures of her new apartment are from the listing and not how Chelsea or her husband have designed it. I think it would be interested to see how they decorated it after moving in. Here's some pics for your design inspiration:
